“Wait a few minutes until the product has dried,” says Erika Picardo, founder of Preim Beauty Inc. “You’ll notice it’s so much easier to lift off from the skin.”

Use A Bobby Pin For Your Cat-Eye Wing

There are lots of techniques to achieve the perfect cat-eye wing, and one of them makes use of an essential hair accessory: the bobby pin. Simply put some of your liquid eyeliner onto the triangular end of the bobby pin, angle that part onto the skin and create the perfect cat-eye.

Create An Eyeshadow Primer With White Eyeliner

Use Tape For Your Eyeliner

Another way to get a professional-looking cat-eye or other eyeliner effect is to use tape. Simply place the edge of the tape in line with your bottom lash line. Farewell, wonky lines!

Condition Your Hair While You Work Out

Before exercising, apply a conditioning hair mask to your entire hair, then secure it in a bun. The body heat generated while you work out will help the mask penetrate even deeper. Then just rinse it out during your post-workout shower.

Use A Mini Spatula To Get Every Last Drop Of Product

If you’ve spent $50 on a foundation, you don’t want to waste a single drop. Licensed esthetician Theresa Novicky, who has been doing makeup for film, weddings and special events for 10 years, swears by mini spatulas.

“Cut off the top of the bottle and use the spatula to scoop out the rest,” she says. Her personal favorite is the Spatty, available for $5.49 on Amazon.

Apply Your Makeup In Natural Lighting

Novicky says it’s best to avoid artificial lighting when you’re applying your makeup because it changes the color of your skin.

“That’s why I stopped doing my makeup in the bathroom,” she explains. If you really can’t apply your makeup in natural lighting, Novicky advises investing in daylight bulbs for your bathroom.

Revive Your Mascara With Saline Solution

You’re only supposed to keep mascara for three months because beyond that point, it can collect bacteria and lead to eye infections. But if your mascara dries up before that time, Novicky recommends reviving it with a couple drops of saline solution.

Make Your Own BB Cream

If you’re out of BB cream — or don’t want to spend your money on it — Picardo shares her simple recipe.

“Take one pump of foundation and one pump of moisturizer (1:1 ratio),” she says. “Mix and apply to the face for a natural, dewy finish.”

Brighten Your Nails With Toothpaste

If you don’t have time for a manicure, reach for your toothbrush and toothpaste. A gentle brush will buff them to a lovely shine, and a dab of whitening toothpaste will give them sparkle. When you’re done, massage in some hydrating cuticle oil.

Wash Your Makeup Brushes While You Shower

Dirty makeup brushes are packed with bacteria that you really don’t want anywhere near your face. But cleaning them might not be high on your to-do list. To help you get into the habit of washing your brushes on the regular, take them into the shower with you! A little regular shampoo and water will have them looking as good as new.

Test Foundation And Concealer On Your Neck

It’s natural to test makeup products on your face — that’s where they go, after all. But it’s best to test them on your neck for a true reflection of how well the makeup suits you. Novicky also recommends testing it out in different lighting, which is why doing it at the makeup counter isn’t always best.

“I only buy foundation and concealer from retailers that have a no-fuss return policy — I need to try it on at home and be able to return it multiple times.”

Put Oil On Your Lips At Night

If you want perfect lipstick application in the morning, Novicky recommends putting oil on them the night before. She rates Monat Rejuveniqe over regular lip balm, which dries your lips out and only provides temporary relief.

“Be sure to drink plenty of water so you are hydrating your lips from the inside out,” she adds.

Heat Your Eyelash Curler With A Hair Dryer

Your lashes will curl easier and stay curled for longer if your eyelash curler is warm, so give it a quick blast with your hairdryer first. Just be sure to let it cool slightly — you want beautiful lashes, not burnt eyelids. Clamp down as normal and enjoy the results.

Store On-The-Go Beauty Essentials In Contact Lens Cases

Instead of taking a whole bottle of foundation, sunscreen or moisturizer in your bag while you’re out and about, transfer a small amount of product into a clean contact lens case. It’s small enough to fit in even the daintiest purse, meaning you won’t ever need to worry about going without your favorite beauty products.

Dust Eyeshadow Along Your Part For Thicker Looking Hair

A great trick to make your hair look thicker is to dust eyeshadow along your part to shade your scalp. You can do the same along your hairline if you like to wear your hair tied back. Just make sure you stick to the same color family as your hair, of course.

If you don’t have long, thick locks, you might struggle to achieve a ponytail that doesn’t sag within an hour. Step forward, trusty bobby pins! After creating your pony, place two or three bobby pins halfway inside the elastic underneath the pony, facing downward towards your crown. Next, fluff your ponytail and flip it over for all the volume you could ever want.

Look no further than your kitchen drawer for an essential winged eyeliner tool. Grab a clean teaspoon, hold the handle of it against the outer corner of your eye, then draw a straight line.
